Battersea Heliport which is located on the south bank of the River Thames first obtained planning permission from central government in 1958. Following the closure of the City of London floating helipad at Trigg Lane in 1985 Battersea Heliport became the capital's only licensed heliport and this still remains the same today. Although there are private landing area's in London, Battersea in the only one approved by the CAA for Public Transport, Commercial operations.
Battersea (London) Heliport is a very small site that uses a jetty to provide a helipad for take-off and landing and provides parking for between three and four aircraft, depending upon their size. The unique location of the heliport creates somewhat of a monopoly with restricted landing slot times during busy periods and charges that are in the multiple hundred of pounds.
