
The 2009 London Boat Show promises visitors a very hands on experience. You will be able to hone your basic skills, and acquire new skills, plus learn from the experts in subjects such as engine maintenance, antifouling, cooking on board your boat, sail trimming, navigation and much much more.
A great day on the 'university challenge' calendar, dating back to 1829 when an undergrad at Cambridge challenged Oxford to a 2000m race from the Royal Regatta finish to the mid-point of Temple Island. The 2008 Boat Race will take place on 29th March, at approx. 17:15 pm.
The country’s largest and most famous yachting race, the JPMorgan Asset Management Round the Island Race, took place at Cowes on the Isle of Wight on in 23rd June 2007. 1,800 boats took part in the race won by Dame Elen MacArthur in her catamaran Extreme 40 competing the 50-mile course around the Isle of Wight in just over 4 hrs.
Established as a single afternoon race in 1839, HRR has become internationally renowned as the largest racing regatta in the world. Held on the 27th weekend each year, it is now an established event in the English Social Season.
Introduced by the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club Cowes in the wake of the cancellation of the Admiral's Cup, the Vice Admiral's Cup has been an instant hit due to it's 'first past the post' racing and laid back soical events.

Skandia Cowes Week is the largest annual sporting event in the UK after the London Marathon, with almost 1,000 yachts and 8,000 competitors taking part. The eight-day event, which has been running since 1826, is great for sailors and visitors alike, with an exciting racing schedule afloat and a packed social programme on shore throughout the Week. Even if you're not taking part, a visit to Cowes during the regatta is a must with it's great selection of specialist shops, excellent line-up of live bands, superb choice of cuisine and carnival-like atmosphere - plus one of the best sailing spectacles in the entire world of course!
